Here's what I'm working on. It's a 1974 Datsun 260Z. I picked it up back in November for $500, and have been working on it ever since. I bought it from the original owner with 62K miles. rocking Here are pics from the day I got it.

It had been sitting up for a few years since the installation of a new engine. The owner wanted a few other things done to it, so he left it at the shop that did the engine rebuild. He lost interest in it, so it sit there until November of '08 when I bought it from him. After I got it, I started trying to get it in running condition. I rebuilt the carbs, put a new fuel pump on it, drained the old gas, and put a new battery on it, and it still wouldn't run for crap. I thought it had an ignition related miss to it, until I did a compression test. 2 of the cylinders had no compression at all. wall bash Sooooo, I took the top end off, and found 3 bent intake valves. aniteef Whoever assembled the new engine got the cam out of time and, well, that's never good. My dad and I put 3 new valves in it and put it all back together and it was on.

That is, until I realized the utter junk that the "flat top" side draft SU carbs are. Cold starts take 2-3 minutes, and they randomly die and just run like hell. Currently, I'm saving up some cash for a Holley 4 bbl carb swap and a Bob Sharp Racing intake manifold. Should be having fun again in a couple weeks! cheers
